Dr. Maryam Matar is the founder and president of the Emirates Genetic Diseases Association, which has led to the issuance of five legislations in the United Arab Emirates. She is a pioneer of the genetic map project in the United Arab Emirates and her project has contributed to placing the UAE on the global map of research and innovation in the field of genetics.
Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Matar is the first Emirati woman to hold the position of Director General in the Dubai government and the first Emirati woman to hold the position of Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health. She was also the leader of the executive team that established development strategies in the strategic plan for the Emirate of Dubai.
Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Matar has been one of the most prominent figures in genetic sciences in the United Arab Emirates since 2014 and is one of the 20 most influential Arab women in the international community. She has received numerous awards and titles since graduating from medical school in 2001, starting with the Distinguished Employee Award at the Dubai Health Authority in 2002 and most recently the Leading Arab Woman Award in 2019.
